Youth Worker Training Completed
National Staff completed a successful 2 day training event for local YMCA staff and youth workers involved in the Y-Zone and Y-Justice programmes of the SA YMCA.
Tribute to John Stadler (1926-2013)
It is with great sadness that the YMCA National office recently learnt of the passing away of John Stadler (86) on 4th January 2013. John was a great YMCA leader in PE and for many years served on the National Executive Committee. He was instrumental in establishing the PE YMCA as a leading organisation in the Eastern Cape. Under John's leadership, the PE YMCA was for many years a beacon of stability and a leading local YMCA in the SA movement. He inspired many of the current staff and volunteers in the movement with his passion for young peoples lives and his impartiality.

Volunteers lead the way to Prison
A graduation ceremony was recently organised by staff and volunteers of the Y-Justice programme run by the Greater Durban YMCA at Westville prison in Durban. It was a privilege to witness the transformation of young women's lives through the Life Skills for Offenders programme. All the prison officials praised the programme and asked why the YMCA was not running it in other prisons. Unfortunately, being a prison, no photos were allowed. 14 women graduated from the programme but only 7 were present at the ceremony due to unforseen circumstances.
Great day at the beach for International visitors
November month brings signs of summer to the Kazulu/Natal coastline. This particular Saturday the sun came out, humidity levels peaked and the westerly wind stayed away.
First SA YMCA S2C workshop ends in Durban
The Africa Alliance of YMCAs completed their facilitation of the first full Subject to Citizen workshop for the SA YMCA.
Over 5000 hoops thrown at the World Challenge in SA
The first unoffical statistic is that among the 5 YMCAs participating in the World Challenge 3 weeks ago, a total of 5175 hoops were thrown. This number is currently being verified as we await official reports from a few Y's.
World Challenge successfully completed
Almost 5000 hoops thrown in South Africa and although final figures are not in yet, it sounds like it could be close to 1 million worldwide, which will be a world record.

This is it! The day we have all been planning for and waiting expectantly for, has almost arrived. Join YMCAs around the country, and indeed the world, in an attempt to set a World Guiness Record of 5 million basketball hoop attempts.
