Reaching young people who have been in conflict with the law or are at a high level of risk of being in conflict with the law.

Taking a break during a workshop

This signature program is designed to reach young people who are in conflict with the law, and young people whose social circumstances place them at a high level of risk regarding potential conflict with the law.   As with all SA YMCA programs, the underlying mission is to “Empower Young People for Life, Leadership and Service”

It is desirable that each local association retains contact with those with whom they have worked in the correctional system in order to monitor their progress in adapting to their freedom and living a crime free life; and in order to be able to recruit their services as volunteers in the program in the future.

It is expected that local YMCAs conducting Youth Justice Programs will offer at least two of the three areas listed above.

· Linking those released with their families

· A Halfway House Facility

· A parole program
